Treating the mentally ill

Posted by Squiggles on October 5, 2006, at 11:43:35

Just for the record, i would like
to write here, that i have been fortunate
to have the doctor that i do for 25 yrs; Because
he treats a mentally ill patient as a
person with a problem first, and a
mentally ill alien later :-).

I have been lucky to receive
the respect and treatment, which i
may not have had with a "scientist
neurologist" type.

I have had my insecurities, due to
common criticism of this approach (you
may be familiar with the controversies
over which treatment is the best on the net),
but on reconsideration, i think it should
be noted that i am very well. Some
cases have not been so lucky.

So, consideration for the patient, close
to accurate diagnosis, medication that
is tolerated, and respect for the person's
feelings and thoughts about the treatment
and how he copes with it... got that :-)

p.s. when my dr. said i did not need a
psychiatrist, i now realize that *that*
was a compliment;
