It is my belief that the reason diphenhydramine acts to mitigate the withdrawal symptoms associatied with the discontinuation syndrome of the various SRI drugs is precisely because it inhibits the reuptake of serotonin. It is likely that the anticholinergic properties help out there too in some cases. This might apply to drugs with NE reuptake inhibition or anticholinergic properties. I'm just guessing though.

To what extent is chlorpheniramine anticholinergic?
