I know that with people with mild rashes (and myself with itching) you can often escalate the dose more slowly and everything goes away. Perhaps it is the same way with the mouth sores, but since they occur in conjunction with SJ just be careful if they recurr after continuing with the Lamictal.
Hypersensitivity reactions are a bit unpredictable with reinsitution of the offending agent. Good luck! I really did well on Lamictal.
