Ed, today was my third full day of trying exactly the complete switch I was referring to from Klonopin to Xanax XR. You're right-not a good idea. Even that short time and I think I'll take a couple days to recover! It's funny, if someone had said they were going to do exactly what I just did, I would have given them the same advice you gave me-there's everything to lose and nothing to gain by doing the switch quickly. I also was guilty of my own bias that Klonopin and Xanax are about equal,on a per mg basis (some sources say Klonopin is twice as "strong")-so I subsituted 1 mg Xanax/day for the 0.75 mg Klonopin/day I was taking. Things got nasty faster than I would have guessed! :>} Human, all too human.
