You say they're so bad that you almost fall out of bed? Does that mean that you have them in bed, while you're trying to get to sleep? If they're happening there, and not other places, there is a sort of jerking thing that happens under that circumstance. I can't remember what it's called, but I'm sure someone else here knows and will tell you about it.
And, of course, the first thing to do in addressing it is talk to your doctor. (And a hint about that: start off by describing the symptom, rather than what you think is the cause.)
