parnate update

Posted by blackcat23 on December 8, 2005, at 19:01:25

Hi all,
Thought I'd post my progress with Parnate and my discontinuation with Lamictal. So far, so good I'm happy to say! I'm taking 30 mg of Parnate split into three doses a day.
The side effects have FINALLY subsided. It was a tough road getting here- ended up in the ER at one point from falling due to the postural hypotension, but the dizziness is finally gone. I'm on my way to the gym now- I wasn't able to exert myself at all for the first month. The dizziness would get really bad and I would feel faint. It was frustrating, but the relief I had from the depression made it worth sticking it out. I'm just so happy that the side effects have now passed.
My mood and energy level has been really good. I'm feeling more level now than I was when I first started Parnate- at first, it was like an immediate burst of energy followed by fatigue, but now it's stabilized for the most part. My appetite has gotten better-- at first, it was difficult to make myself eat anything at all. Overeating is often a symptom of my depression, but I haven't had the urge to do that since I began Parnate. Now, I'd say I'm eating a healthy amount and not emotionally eating. My sex drive has returned (yay!), and overall I'm feeling really good. I hope it continues. Insomnia has been a slight problem, but since I take Lunesta, it's not bad at all. What's happened a few times is that I get worn down from not sleeping enough over the course of several days and then just get overly tired and have some trouble winding down enough to fall asleep. My motivation has been good, too. I don't think I've noticed a big change since I tapered off Lamictal, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that everything continues to move smoothly.
I'm going back to law school in San Francisco next month! I'm excited and hope my mood continues to hold up for it.
