Re: Adjuvant Seroquel works for SA

Posted by Cairo on November 23, 2005, at 7:36:35

Adding low dose Seroquel (1/4 of a 25mg tablet) to my teen daughter's Zoloft (75mg) as an adjuvant has helped her social anxiety noticeably. We had been on a long, difficult road to find something that would help her as her previous pdoc kept her on Lexapro for over a year, insisting that since it improved her symptoms 30-40% or so, we should stick with it despite us insisting that she had significant fatigue and memory issues on it.

Well, we fired that pdoc and finally found another one who switched her first to Zoloft: no fatigue and no cognitive issues that we notice. And her SA improved another 30% or so. 75mg seems to be the optimal dose as we bumped it to 100mg and didn't see any improvement, but got a little agitation.

Then our new pdoc added low dose Seroquel with good results. My daughter had been having panic attacks in the mall and other large settings and had the feeling that peers were watching her, but this has much improved with 6.25mg of Seroquel to the point that she attended a Girl Scout Car Wash the other day and held up the sign next to the busy road and waved it back and forth by herself. When cars beeped, she waved back! I almost cried when I saw this. I don't know if it's the fact that she is sleeping better or what.

I just wanted to post because we had asked our former pdoc to switch the Lexapro to something esle and to try Seroquel, per the recommendation of a well known pediatric psychiatrist we had consulted in the Northeast, but he insisted that it would make her too tired and it would increase her cognitive problems. And he used to be the head of the Anxiety department at the medical school in our state.

So I guess she also suffered from medicinae doctor ignarus in addition to her SA. I just couldn't buy his "it's the best we can expect" attitude.

You gotta be tough and advocate, folks.
