A recent Harvard study advocated the use of Klonopin for anxiety. The effective dose range in their study was 1-4 mg per day.

Also, Lyrica, a cousin of Neurontin, looked good for anxiety in some tests. The effective dose for GAD was 400 to 600 mg. (As yet, GAD is an off lable use).

I'm no expert but my understanding is that both Klonopin and Lyrica should be low in the side effects department.

But if you have had trouble with Klonopin and Neurontin, and you have tried both at higher doses, then that's a different matter.
