I'm not sure how long a break you're talking about, but I took Parnate for more than a year then had to discontinue it because of the need to take another medication that could not be taken in conjunction with it. When I took it again several years later, its effect was much diminished. I don't know if that is characteristic of Parnate or if perhaps my metabolism or neurotransmitter functioning had altered in the interim due to use of alternative antidepressants. All I know is that I was very pleased with it the first time but disappointed the second.
