I was always told that benzos and alchohol could depress your respirations and you could die. The pdoc I worked with was apalled that the pdoc I was seeing knew and let me drink 5-6beers nightly. A couple of days later I was hospitalized for what turned out to be an elevated TSH and my synthroid had to be upped. Meanwhile the pdoc switched me to chloral hydrate for sleep. Well you can't drink with this as it becomes a Mickey Finn. Now I'm off of it after 8 years, but am scared to death to drink with the valium I'm on. The pdoc's brainwashed me. But I want to add that when I took xanax and drank the beer I felt and functioned very highly. Now I don't and have developed all kinds of phobias. Fondly, Phillipa
