I have been taking Neurontin for about a month now. Was prescribed it for neuropathy type pains (which are still being investigated). I am also on Xanax XR (for anxiety), Ambien (as a sleep aid - prior to that was Restoril and prior to that was Ambien again), and Selegiline (low dose, 5mg twice a day - but just started that so only doing 2.5 mg a day right now).

The selegiline is for extremely low norepinephrine levels that were recently discovered. Unfortunately Effexor and Cymbalta caused severe prostatitis type pains. It seems that my body may have adjusted to the extremely low NE levels and reacts very adversely when anything is done that quickly boosts NE (said prostatitis type pains, much higher anxiety, and increase in the neuropathy type pains). Note that this includes not only things like Effexor and Cymbalta, but also high dose tyrosine, high dose DLPA, intense exercise (moderate aerobics are okay but weight lifting creates said reaction). Therefore the very low dose selegiline to start out with. I believe the psych doc's strategy is to very gradually bring the NE levels up to more normal ranges.

Oh yes, also on AndroGel for testosterone replacement therapy.

Also am on very advanced testings to try and find out what is going on with having highly elevated cortisol levels. One might think that adrenal fatigue was happening with the low levels of NE, but the high levels of cortisol counter that theory...

Anyway, my libido seems to have been weakened somewhat since I have gone on the Neurontin, but I'm just not sure. When all of this suddenly happened (June 2004), my libido went from a 9 to a 0. After getting on the AndroGel therapy, it went from a 0 to about a 4 - 5. Since then it seems to have slipped some more, but not sure that it's due to the Neurontin.

It seems that sex also causes a burst of NE secretion and - yep - it also causes this reaction of increased anxiety, increased neuropathy type pains and those prostatitis type symptoms.

Orgasms were quite a bit less intense when things first started functioning again, but seem to be back to within 90% of where they were before. Neurontin hasn't seemed to diminish or increase intensity either way.

Am hopeful to get on the Lyrica if it ever gets released to the US market. Possibly can cut back then on some of the other meds, plus Lyrica supposedly more powerful at lower doses with fewer side effects (???).
