Clonazepam, insomnia and pregnancy

Posted by slambie on March 1, 2005, at 16:47:28

Hello,

I am 31 years old and for the past three years, I have taken .5 mgs of clonazepam and 10 mgs of Lexapro nightly in order to sleep. For some reason, the clonazepam doesn’t work without the Lexapro, and anti-depressants alone don’t help w/ the insomnia.

At any rate, I am currently 25 weeks pregnant. I discontinued both the klonopin and Lexapro within the first 2 weeks after conception and a recent sonogram suggests that the baby is fine(no cleft pallet or other deformaties associated w/ Klonapin.)

While I managed to get a fair amount of sleep during the first 16 weeks of pregnancy, I have been now suffering from extreme insomnia for the last 9 weeks: like 1 - 2 hours a night. I've been taking 10 mgs of Ambien 2-3 nights a week for the last 3 weeks and can usually get 4-6 hours of sleep on it, but I'm afraid to take it more often then that.

My question is this? Would it be safe to resume the clonazepam and lexapro now that I'm in my 25th week? Know of any recent studies pointing to this? If it's not, are there any suggestions for safer alternatives that might have a similar affect as the Clonazepam/Lexapro combo?
