I feel exactly the same way. I take valproate, and it is better than tegretol in that it has an additional gaba effect, but I actually feel more normal on a benzodiazapine.

The CA/NA blocakdade can really drag you down wheras a pure gaba effect might leave you more intact.

Perhaps pregabalin ?
