Weight gain on the Antipsychotics

Posted by pretty_paints on December 12, 2004, at 13:12:35

I thought I'd take a leaf out of Ed's book and start a thread on a topic which has been bothering me!

I'm just interested in people who have put weight on while on an antipsychotic. Which ones gave you the most increase? And how gradual was this?

I was 7 1/2 stone (um, for all those Americans, thats 105 lbs) before I started on anything (which was too light, I was just naturally underweight. I've never had an appetite in my life!). I went onto Zyprexa and put on 2 stone (14 lbs) very quickly, in about a month and a half. Then I changed to Seroquel and my "new appetite" from the Zyprexa went away. But now, slowly, my appetite is increasing again. Apparently you can put on a similar amount of weight on Zyprexa and Seroquel, but with Zyprexa you put it on very quickly and then level off, whereas with Seroquel it is much more of a gradual slope.

Thanks for your input!
