First, quoting the PI...

"..These three cases yield a crude incidence of severe neutropenia (with or without associated infection) of approximately 1.1 per thousand patients exposed, with a very wide 95% confidence interval, i.e., 2.2 cases per 10,000 to 3.1 cases per 1000."

(and one of the patients had another disorder as well)... basically says its somewhere between 2/100 of a % and 3/10 of a % or very rare.

However... I understand your concern.... I was worried about it when I took remeron just like I worried about every other drug reading the PDR. I would say several points to your post.

First... if you're concerned about it... and you've been on it for like 3-6 weeks or so, like I had, I would ask your doctor to give you a simple CBC blood count. If you cannot afford the blood count perhaps a free clinic can administer one.

Second point... I assume you are taking generic mirtazapine now as Remeron is no longer being promoted except as Soltab and probably not manufactured but I dont know on that point.

As for your alternatives... I leave a disclaimer not being a doctor and not knowing what exactly you are being treated for other than I can assume major depression. There are cheaper alternatives although they are not necessarily as clean drugs as the ones used today, namely the tricyclic antidepressants such as Imipramine, Amitriptryline, Anafranil, etc.

To a healthy holiday season and a brighter new year.
