I think it's a great question and I'm conflicted.
On the one hand I recognize a tendency to obsess / overfocus on anything (work, food, diet pepsi, ibuprofen, haircuts) that I sometimes label "addictive personality."On the other hand after nine years clean and sober I've found that a mix of Strattera and Concerta has done wonders for my distraction and impulsiveness in a work setting. Do undiagnosed ADHD people unknowingly self-medicate with "recreational drugs?" Is there a relationship between addiction and ADHD? My experience suggests that the stimulants are superior to Strattera in symptom relief. Should I be avoiding them because of a prior drinking problem? I dunno - doesn't sound right.
