Hello Keith,
All the psychiatrists that I've seen have been pleasant... but their knowledge of psychopharmacology and psychological techniques has never been impressive! I've never seen a private pdoc, only NHS ones. I'm sure your (new) GP would be able to refer you to an NHS psychiatrist.
