I'm wondering if acamprosate might be used as successfully instead of the very expensive memantine. Does acamprosate have a bad side effect profile or is there some other reason why it isn't used much or at least talked about much here?

Acamprosate (Campral) was only recently approved for alcoholism in the US. Perhaps this is why so few people know about it. I have it on my list of things to try, but I haven't decided just how high up to place it.
