Its an MAOI... its an old, old antidepressant. Its perhaps the most effective on the market though, and would be one of the most commonly prescribed if not for the dangerous interactions with some types of food. It is excellent for atypical depression, social anxiety and many other things.
The main side effects are weight gain and anorgasmia, although they seem to go away after a bit...? And of course the main one, dietary restrictions: tap beer, aged cheese, cough medicines and others can cause dangerous rises in blood pressure. This one is permanent and the most offputting (for me). I'm washing out from efexor ATM and hope to be on this within the next month.
