She is right in a way. For me though I started with the drugs and then started the meds. While on meds I discovered that I was less inclined to feel the need for pot and alcohol. So I went through stages where I would stop the drugs and start the drugs. I just totaly gave up the drugs about 3 years ago, still drink a couple once in a while.
