I've read here and there that Effexor has been shown to affect blood glucose metabolism in some people. I know it was true for me. My average blood sugar reading is 72, and on Effexor is was ranging from 38 to 180 -- that last being into diabetic territory. That can affect weight.

Unfortunately, that's not something many doctors seem to have read about, although it's been published at least twice.

I'm very sorry that you've experienced this. Again, on a combination of Prozac -- known to cause weight gain -- and Effexor, I gained about 50 pounds, maybe a bit more since I just stopped getting on scales after a certain point. It did come off after I came off the drug, although it took a while.

Have you considered Cymbalta, instead of Lamictal? Just a thought, since you responded well otherwise to Effexor.
