Hi D minor:
I'm so glad to see/read your somehow 'up-beat' post this morning when I opened this site, psycho.-babble.

In answer to your question below;

>>> it's been a week since I started the Depakote. I've been really sleepy, causing me to miss some work and school. Other than that I haven't noticed any side effects. <<<

--- It sounds to me like you're doing a GREAT job on the Depakote. When on 750 mg. - 1250 mg., I was just 'zombie' not capable to do anything(truthfully). I needed to quit both the work and the school. Sleepiness/zombiness, ... in my personal experience, does NOT go away at least you're accustomed to it. In that regard, I can not tell, ... but for me, unfortunately it didn't subside a bit even a year later when the effectiness of the Depakote ceased and switched a new pdoc.(long story). ---

In regard to 'talk therapy,' I, too have NOT yet found a good one to speak out. I had a bad experience with the therapist at the beginning when I was first dxed with Bp. Like you, she was so blunt and non-caring to my feelings/emotional well-being. It hurt me rather the help I needed. Since then, I have NO talk therapist. But, maybe on the road ahead, I will find a right one. Some saying, ... like pdoc., it's VERY hard to find a therapist who fits to your emotional and psychological needs.

>>> In the hospital they told me that the hallucinations wouldn't fully go away until my mood was stabilized (this was when I was dxed MD). Does this stand true for BP. When I stop cycling will they go away? <<<

--- I never been in hospital although my Bp is one of 'hardest' group. Then, I have no clue whether they/hospital's quote is true. However, in regard to 'rapid cycler,' ... in my case, first of all, the med. combo.(zyprexa 5 mg. Lithium 900 mg. Trazodone 150 mg. and WB sr 300 mg.) needs to work 'GOOD' on my system/Bp chemical. Because, rapid cycler is one of 'mania' which is not easily controlled by the med. combo. I'd say, ... rapid cycler seems worse than ordinary mania you normally experience on your manic episodes. Then, the hospital stuff did tell you the 'truth.'

Sometime, it takes awhile to get the med. combo. working on you appropriately, ... but it(feeling well) will come as long as you're taking the med. combo. faithfully.

In my personal opinion, it does NOT matter how many meds.(6 in all) you're on. What matters is you'd better to stay on this combo. as long as it's helping you.
H.G.
