Ritalin Dampener....?

Posted by colin wallace on October 11, 2004, at 11:58:49

Hi guys,

I've been taking Ritalin for three weeks or so now as my first ever stimulant trial for ADD(inattentive)alongside my staple bipolar11 meds, Trileptal and Prozac.
I don't quite know what to make of Ritalin- at 15mg daily, it had almost the opposite effect to what I was expecting.Instead of being energized or motivated, I find I'm feeling fairly sullen and withdrawn- it seems to have introverted and dampened my mood.I do however feel very calm, and as one who suffers terribly with dysphoric bouts and rapid cycling, this at least is a positive effect I can't overlook. It's not looking as though its activating any hypomania either.
Socially, I think it could turn me into a bit of a dum-dum.I can't honestly say I feel particularly alert either. Is this just an idiosyncratic reaction on my part, or fairly normal?I'm wondering if a low dose of adderal might suit me better.Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Col.
