I had an awful experience with depoprovera shots as well. I felt suicidal and couldn't get out of bed. Four months later I went on Effexor and started feeling better a couple hours after I took my first dose. I've been on Effexor 5 years. The side effect of being sleepy has been tolerable, especially considering how I felt when I started the drug. However, I have gained 80 lbs in 5 years. At this rate, I'm going to explode. I'm trying to decide whether to be happy and fat or try to go off effexor at the risk of always being angry like I was before. Also, I wonder about what my liver is going to be like 50 years from now if I don't get off this drug.
