Hi:
Yes, .... SSRIs induce 'mania.' For this reason, most of pdocs. avoid to rx any of SSRIs on Bipolar.

Lamical alone therapy, ... I never had, but from what I read/heard is Lamical has good effectiveness on both, mania and depression of Bp. Paricularly, if most of Bp symptoms are depressive episodes with slight 'manic' episode.

Also, your question concerning 'Anxiety' because of the SSRIs, it might be all depend on a type of symptoms you have. If you're more prone to get 'anxiety,' then you need 'anti-anxiety' med. Only Lamical may not be alleviated your symptoms, because Lamictal is mostly 'mood-stabilizer' which is good on both, depression and mania.
