According to the manufacturer's labelling, Cymbalta can be initiated at either 40mg per day or 60mg per day. Dosing can be either once a day or b.i.d. Given the relatively short half-life (12 hours), I would think b.i.d. makes more sense.I'm not sure why my doctor chose the 30mg to start. He had been in contact with representatives of the drug company prior to its approval. I discontinued imipramine only one week before starting Cymbalta, though, and this might be his reason for titrating it more gradually for me. I'll ask him next time I speak to him.
