In reply to Has anyone taken PROVIGIL + NARDIL?, posted by alesta on August 17, 2004, at 2:17:23
I would like to say that I took Nardil from 1989 to 1993 and it very much changed my life for the better. It eventually pooped out, but I think I may have inadvertently contributed to this by my incredibly hard drinking at that time (which was a continuation of the "coping strategies" I learned as a young adult). When it worked, Nardil *energised me* and helped me to *lose weight*. Occasional anorgasmia?... yes, for sure, but as a lifelong depressive I found that this was not too high a price to pay. I am presentaly in week six of my Parnate therapy and I am starting to lose the weight which I have gained during the years of lousy, ineffectual, stupid, pointless SSRI treatment. (Sorry, do I sound a little prejudiced? So be it.) I am an atpical depressive. I am 52 years old and although I was diagnosed with Major Depression when I was 25 y.o. I have suffered since I was in my early adolescence.
You must remember that these therapies need to be given adequate time and dosage. This doesn't always happen because not many docs are au fait regarding their safety, for starters, and their efficacy. MAOIs are dinosaurs, but they continue to be damned effective with people who are treatment resistant, and therefore shouldn't be taken lightly.
I wish you success,Piquet.
