Pregabalin (anti-anxiety med) approved in Europe

Posted by pseudonym on July 12, 2004, at 15:04:10

As far as I'm concerned, this European approval (as of June 6th) qualifies as good news. Pregabalin, known as Lyrica, at 300 to 600 mg a day, was essentially as effective as Xanax for generalized anxiety. However, it did not have with withdrawal syndrome that Xanax users are well aware of. So, as of September to October this year, your doctor could likely issue a prescription for this. Realize though, that the European indications are for epilepsy and neuropathic pain, not GAD. A GAD indication will follow in the U.S., for which a new drug application is under current review by the FDA.
