Re: Nardil

I was on Nardil for over four years for atypical depression (which I've had from adolescence -- I'm now over 50) and only stopped because it pooped out. In retrospect, augmentation might have helped there. For me, at that time, it turned my life around. Subsequent to the poop-out I took many SSRIs, but they never really did the trick for me compared to the MAOI. I didn't get edema but had quite a few problems with insomnia and sexual dysfunction. A week ago I started on Parnate and have had no nausea, but do have some insomnia and lightheadedness. I've lost my appetite, too, but that's a *good* thing! Perhaps somebody else can comment about the thinning hair -- for some guys there's always the possibility of male-pattern baldness with or without antidepressants :( Many side effects of ADs pass with time, but we are complex creatures and mileage will vary greatly between individuals. I wish you well.

> Has anyone been on Nardil and gotten edema in there legs and feet. Also have you experienced nausea? I was on it for 2 months and got both of those symtoms but the stuff really seemed to work. I am now on Zoloft and I dont think of it as effective as Nardil. I also tried Parnate and that made me extremely sick to my stomach. I am trying to find a good A Typical Antidepressant and have had so much trouble. Has anyone had the symtoms I am talking about and they passed after a few months?

I have been on SSRI's Prozac and Zoloft and have noticed my hair thinning over the years and for that reason I would like to get off of the Zoloft and the SSRI's. I have read that both the Prozac and Zoloft can cause thinning of he hair.
