> I have taken neurontin for several years (2400mg) and added klonopin (1.5mg). The klonopin addition has made me pretty dumb, but helps tremendously with other things (derealization). Do you think that since these both are GABA meds that I may be able to reduce my neurontin dose without much detriment and maybe pick things up a bit in the cognition department? I'm studying for an entrance exam right now and am having some trouble.

hello there, chemist here....neurontin has not been shown to be an effective mood stabilizer, period. it is an anti-convulsant and the dose you are taking is in the range of unlabelled use for bipolar, but the evidence is not there. the klonopin is likely the result of your ``dumbing down,'' and neurontin DOES NOT interact with GABA receptors. i suggest cutting down the klonopin...all the best, chemist
