Klonopin Withdrawal Symptoms

Posted by mike_pittsburgh on June 4, 2004, at 22:04:10

I've was prescibed Klonopin 5 1/2 years ago after sudden onset of severe tinnitus. I was taking it 3 times a day. (.75mg at night, .25mg in morning & .25mg in afternoon.) Two years ago I sucessfully weaned myself off of the daily dosages. Withdrawal symptoms (especially insomnia) were to bad when I tied to wean off of the bedtime dosage. 5 weeks ago, under my GP's supervision, I tried to go cold turkey to eliminate the bedtime dose. I managed to go 6 nights without it. Withdrawal symptoms were terrible. What a big mistake to go cold turkey! I resumed the bedtime dose of .75mg. It's been 4 weeks now and I am still experiencing 'withdrawal' symptoms that include insomia, sensitive/ichy skin, and feeling lousy.
Does anybody have any idea on how long these lingering 'withdrawal' symptoms will last? (I hope that I didnot permanently mess myself up.)
What compounds my situation is that after going cold turkey, I went from going completely off of Klonopin to now taking it one time aday. With a active half life of about 12-15 hrs I really start to feel bad by mid to late afternoon. I just had another appointment with my GP. He thinks withdrawal symptoms will evenually go away & I should stick it out, but it's ok with him if I take a mid-day dose of .25mg. Not sure what to do.
