MAOIs and surgery are discussed nearly every year of every doctor's training. The problem arises only because MAOIs are rare, so if you have emergent brought in unconscious surgery and the docs don't know your meds, they may not think of an MAOI as something you are on; but if they know about it beforehand--it's anesthesia 101. Also, the main culprit, epinephrine, I don't think is used in surgeries much anymore.
