Although, I have to say that the stuff the naturopath had me trying (5htp, l-tyrosine) I think works well for a lot of people, but I just couldn't take it on an empty stomach anymore and it just didn't have the same good effect when I took it with food. Also, I think the naturopath I went to was sort of irresponsible in that he told me that every person he had tried the products on had gotten better and then had a person with a weak stomach and GERD take the pills on an empty stomach.

What doseage did you actually end up taking? At low doses it solely blocks H1 receptors (anti-histamine), as the dosage increases it rapidly saturates these recptors(because it is the strongest antihistamine on the market) & then it overflows into the 5-HT2A, 5-HT2C & 5-HT3 receptors. These are good to block & are known to reverse SSRI induced side effects. At still higher doses it starts to block Alpha-2 NE recptor which can be stimulating, but for me the stimulation was causing me to be crank & irritable, it is most likely to be what is waking you up. It took me ages to tolerate 30mg & the only reason I increased from 15 to 30mg was for a further decrease in Effexor side effects. It also causes me fluid retention around the feet at 30mg, which I wasn't getting at 15mg.

Cheers,
Panda.
