Hi , I am from england too, my advice would be to try and get clonazepam ( klonopin as our american friends call it). It's therapeutic effects seems to fit your symptoms very well and in the bnf and mims ( the reference books they look drugs up in)it is listed as an anti convulsant, it is in fact a benzo but you may manage to get it as many are not aware of that.
If necessary ask for a short trial, ie a weeks worth, then report back .
0.5- 1 mg at night usually helps.
