In reply to NEURONTIN FOR ANXIETY? ANY EXPERIENCES?, posted by krybrahaha on March 24, 2004, at 20:12:05
I was prescribed Neurontin for facial pain last summer--a relatively low dose 900 mg/d. It didn't do much for the pain, so I tried taking more(per MD's instructions). At about 3000 mg/d (3.0 g/d!) I noticed some calming effects. But like someone in this thread said, mutiple dosing is a pain.
A couple of other comments about this drug. I think it's cleared unchanged from your system in a few hours (hence the mutiple dosing). It's very expensive, so you'd better have good insurance. Finally, nobody seems to have a clue how it works. Receptor-binding studies have demonstrated it doesn't bind to the normal receptors one would look at for this type of drug. It may, at high dose, have some efficacy for bezodiazepine withdrawal, although I think that one's still up in the air.
Keep in mind though, I'm one data point--which proves nothing other than I doesn't seem to be too useful to me. I may be worth a try for you.
