What type of side effects is he suffering? Both Zoloft and Effexor are strongly serotonergic and may not be the best choice for some people. I've taken both of them and had insomnia problems on both, for instance. Both of them also seemed to make me emotionally aloof, but this went away after discontinuing the meds.
