I agree with Panda. My pdoc says drooling is one of the early signs of pseudo-parkinsonism/extrapyramidal side effects from these meds, and the muteness might be from severe sedation - these older antipsychotics have sometimes been called "chemical straitjackets". In high doses for long periods the extrapyramidal symptoms can lead to permanent damage (tardive diskinesia).

If you have any way to act as an advocate for your uncle, see if you can get his medication reviewed. I know little personally about management of this type of condition, but as Panda says there are newer, better medications, even if they are expensive. Maybe a compromise - a mixed regime?
