Keppra - PDoc says stimulating????

Posted by sjb on January 21, 2004, at 8:28:56

Hi,

My PDoc just prescribed Keppra to add to my daily dose of Effexor (75mg per day) and Wellbutrin XL. I was experiencing an increase in my atypical depression and SAD: oversleeping, irritability, overeating (esp. carbs), overly sensitive and quick to cry over minor things, etc.

I've not been checking in on this board for quite some time, so I'm not familiar with a lot of the newer meds, although I see Keppra's been around at least since '02. Anyway, when he gave it to me last week, I had never heard of it. He said it was stimulating and some patients who were taking it for seizures found they had to take it in the morning or they wouldn't be able to sleep. He recommended that I keep on the Effexor and Wellbutrin and the Keppra would have the added benefit of helping with Wellbutrin's potential for seizures.

Well, I investigated both here and elsewhere and it seems to me that this the LAST drug I should be trying for my symptoms. The listed side effects are my symptoms that I want to get rid of!!! Has my PDoc lost his mind, or does he know something that you folks do that isn't widely known???
