Hi,

Welcome to the forum. You sound like me when I was 17- that is when I started on Lithium. I'd like to offer you advice if you don't mind- I guess because I can remember feeling like you did then. It is really helpful if you can talk to someone about the side effects and the feelings you have about the medication. Do you go to counseling or anything? That is helpful- it is hard but it helps. You can always just try the medication for a few months and see if it helps you- people often suggest medication is helpful with therapy. Do you have any friends or family to talk to about this? This is helpful too- it can take a couple tries and sometimes it is hard for people to understand, but you'll be able to find one or a few people you can confide in.
Generally, if the side effects get annoying and interfere with daily life, the doctor usually changes it. You have a good point about your age and the effects the meds are having- your body is changing a lot right now. An important thing to ask yourself is if you really need the medication-17 was a tough age for me, it could be there are a lot of things going on. Anyways, if you have any questions just address them to me.

Sara
