A good researched article, but it completely misses the boat on Generalized Anxiety Disorder and it's connection to Post Traumatic Stress. One of my experiences is that I lost a child to death, and no 'simulation' or CBT will ever, ever 'help' that. That's what distinguishes us from animals, is the higher brain and the ability to be reflective, and that may be why the possibility of why suicide is pretty much a human phenomenon. Animals don't have that, and that is also part of the price of being human. Animals can't long for what they don't understand, or can't perceive. Animals don't read Plato. So these tests with animals and extrapolating their results to humans must be used with extreme caution, and I don't think the psychology community is doing that.

I have worked with many who see CBT as almost a religion in my jobs as a social worker, and in addictions in particular, there is a huge feud between the CBT'ers, and the AA believers. IMHO...CBT should be used only as a small part of a larger psycho-therapeutic role. In fact I think if used wrongly for the wrong situation, CBT can cause further damage to an individuals fragile sense of self.

Just my .02 cents,
Jay
