Welcome!

Just from what you're saying here, I was probably talking about GERD, which is actually a low-acid, late-release of acid, syndrome. Treating it by blocking all acid release is poor medical practise, IMHO. That will only exacerbate the negative effects already accruing from the low-acid condition.

> I have history as bipolar..lithium, rest of it are in the past. That is because my digestion became so bad I realized the link to mood was my gut. I am off all meds. I am doing a series of treatments from book "Food Allergy Cure",taking enzymes minerals juicing..off sugar, caffiene, dairy, and others.

So, how's that working for you? Tell me more about it. Have you noticed specific symptoms changing? How's your energy? Motivation?

> Hoover talks about the B-12 Betaine Bromelain magnesium link to stopping the gut from dumping acid at wrong time, odd times. Want to know at what dosage please.

When I did my research into the mechanisms of gastric regulation (all the hormones and signalling compounds and regulators of the whole digestive tract), I found certain nutrients that were critical for proper gastric functioning, but which would themselves be poorly absorbed if the gut was already not working right. The classic vicous circle concept.

Example:
B-12 needs normal stomach acid concentration to be extracted from food, and become available for uptake. Yet, B-12 is essential for the proper signalling for stomach acid release.

Personal aside:
I used prescription medication for GERD for many years. I could not function without it (miss a dose, and acid rebound had me doubled over in pain). I took part in the clinical trial for Nexxium, for example. I knew I was not receiving the placebo (and I told them so). When I started thinking about the impact of what is really iatrogenic achlorhydria (doctor-caused absence of stomach acid), I looked more closely at B-12. It turns out that your liver stores B-12 to some appreciable extent (it is the only B vitamin with that characteristic, and some people think you can store five years worth of it). So, B-12 deficiency symptoms would not appear suddenly. They would sneak up on you. And they did.

I don't *know* that taking the supplements I mentioned above "cured my GERD", but, two weeks after starting them, I no longer needed the drugs to control stomach acid. Two years later, that is still the case.

Dose:

B-12, 1,000-5,000 mcg/day. You can reduce that later, but you want to saturate with it. Best is methylcobalamin, but cyanocobalamin is OK, too.

betaine (TMG), 500-2,000 mg/day. I'm very sensitive to this stuff. Too much, and I can't sleep at all. Start low, and see what you tolerate. I don't take this every day any more, either.

bromelain, 500-2,000/day, with high-protein meals. It has proteolytic activity, and also has anti-inflammatory action. I find it soothes my gut, but whether that's because I digest protein better, or because of the anti-inflammatory effect, or both, I don't know.

It is also important to recognize that I didn't just take those supplements alone. Those are *added to* my already comprehensive supplement regime. I already took B-complex, multi-mineral supps, and additional zinc, selenium, fish oil, magnesium, alphalipoic acid, vitamin E, C. Maybe it only works with all these other substances, too. All I know for a fact is that it worked for me, and it worked quickly.

>I am having trouble digesting many supplements and am taking very low dose of multi vitamins minerals etc. and despair that I will be able to make up deficiences.

Your gut needs to heal, and part of the reason it is having trouble healing is that your body is malnourished because of the sick gut. It can take a while before things settle down. You *must* be doing better things for your health and your gut health than you were doing before.

> My problem complicated by being vegetarian, a spiritual choice that I will not reconsider. Most rejuvination food programs call for meat products.

That makes more planning necessary, particularly as one of the most overlooked aspects of meat consumption is the high mineral content.

> I could take dairy if my gut would accept it, which it does not want to.

Most people think dairy = cow's milk. You could try goat's milk, sheep's milk, lactose-reduced cow's milk, and so on. You may find that you don't react to other forms of milk.

> Anyway, I also was wondering if anyone has gone to the Pfiffer Inst. in Ohio and had that workup for supplements...

At the bottom of the page, you'll find a Search feature. Just put Pfeiffer in that, and hit the Google search button (Google gives you the more recent threads).

> or I was just reading about that Truehope pill..if anyone has tried that.

Truehope = much hype, IMHO. A very expensive way to get a balanced supplement. You'll get a ratio of supplements that is predetermined, and that may or may not be the right ratio for you.

> I am concerned about how to find out exactly what it is that is missing in my chemistry from a trusted source..

There are actually two components to that statement:

1. What is right for you....can only be determined by what I call "doing the experiment". No amount of thinking will answer that. You have to do trial and error.

2. From a trusted source......that's way harder to determine. There is a huge amount of pseudo-scientific information on the net, and some if it is just plain wrong, or so out of context that it is meaningless. I'm very lucky, in that my scientific training and my geek brain (hey, it had to be good for something) have given me the tools I need to filter out the BS (most of the time), and to not transmit BS (I hope, most of the time).

Your own knowledge, and confidence in that knowledge, can only grow, with the effort you're expending.

> and also am upset that I can take only small amounts and that these megadoses will backfire on me...

So far. First, you need to get your gut to settle down. That can be done, but the details may take a little detective work.

> any input from anyone about repairing the gut would be greatly appreciated

I hope the bromelain would help, right away. Tell me more about what your experience is, based on that book you mention above, and we may be able to sort out some more ways to help.

P.S. I love questions, so don't hold back.
