Dr. Daniel Amen has done SPECT imaging of patients with both OCD and ADD symptoms and finds metabolic abnormalities in the cingulate gyrus and the pre-frontal lobes and calls the combination "Overfocused ADD". He recommends a number of treatment scheme options for it based on his clinical experience.
I would recommend you and your son look over this website and have your son take Amen's "Brain system checklist".
