Yes, unfortunately the above is very true. The pharmaceutical companies are pushing doctors to rx SSRIs, Effexor XR and even low dose atypical anti-psychotics for routine panic disorder and other anxiety disorders. And many doctors are falling inline completely. Some doctors rx atypical anti-psychotics for anxiety along with SSRIs because they are afraid of getting their patients addicted to benzos and thus afraid of potential lawsuits. Others succumb to the lobbying of large drug companies like Eli Lilly who push Zyprexa for everything under the sun, like panic disorder. Zyprexa is an expensive drug and costs a lot more than say, a month's supply of generic klonopin or even a month's supply of paxil or buspar.

Greed gets in the way of straight thinking in the psychiatric world many times...
