Hi,

I'm taking 5 mg of Lexapro. I have been for the past 2 1/2 weeks. One of my problems is anxiety as well, and the 5 mg is working very well at this time. I am also taking carbamazepine ER 200 mg once a day (mood stabilizer/anticonvulsant) for borderline personality disorder during this same period. Last week I took 10 mg Lexapro two days in a row and it caused my hands to shake and made me agitated--not a good feeling at all, so I went back down to what works, 5 mg.

Just a bit of advice: Most people that suffer from high anxiety as well as panic disorder sufferers run on high adrenaline, and they can be very sensitive to medicines. It is always better to start out at a lower dose, since normal start up doses can actually cause anxiety or induce a panic attack. Any increases in dosage are made gradually. A couple of years ago I did very well at just 25 mg of Zoloft, which is very low dose. When dose was increased to what is considered normal start up dose, I began to get shaky hands and extreme agitation. It was a side effect I could not get passed, or wait out to see if it would wane as my doctor said might happen. I ended up being switched to another antidepressant instead of going back down to 25 mg.
