If I had not suffered from unbearable s/e from the Effexor, I would have stayed on it forever. Not only did it take care of the depression, my anxiety was completely wiped away. To me -- and this is only my opinion -- it was the best thing I have tried. However, I was so sick to my stomach the whole time I developed an ulcer from taking it, and gained 40 pounds in 6 months on it. Those together are what caused the final decision to go off it, and though I like the Lexapro I take now, NOTHING worked on my GAD on a daily basis like the Effexor. It would be so nice to be one of those people who can take it with little or no s/e!
