Hi Lynda,
I wanted to let you know how things are going taking topamax to counteract the weight gain of Remeron. I am now up to 125mg of Topamax. I have been titrating up very slowly and have been doing really well so far. The major side effects have been sedation and that hit at 100mg. It took me a few days to get used to that dosage and then I developed a bladder infection which seem to be more common with Remeron and Topamax. Not fun... I was not happy about that since I had one earlier that month as well. Staying hydrated is critical. I was on 100mg for two weeks, was exercising, and living comfortably and now will be on 125mg for another two weeks until I see my Dr. I'm just starting to see that my metabolism might be speeding up a bit and losing a little weight. I have not had the cognitive problems that others have experienced because I have titrated up so slowly. That seems to be the key ingredient to avoiding that side effect.
Anyway, I am hopeful that soon I will find a dosage that I can settle in on where my body will lose the weight and I can just live my life more comfortably and predictably. It's been a tough row to hoe finding the right combination of meds that don't have side effects that are debilitating.
Thats all for now. Hope you are doing well.Madge
