Hi Sarah,
It may sound paradoxical, but lithium hits
the depression by hitting the mania. When I
was prescribed, 20 yrs ago, I was suicidal, with
mixed states; the lithium stopped the depression
cold within a week. It was quite miraculous.
I am not sure of its chemistry but i have collected
a lot of information and posted in on this site
