I take both synthroid and half of my cytomel dose first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, along with 1 other med that requires an empty stomach and 2 others that can go either way.
I had not heard about needing to take it apart from other meds, but I do know about taking it apart from food or milk--about 1 hour before eating is okay, and at least 3 hours after eating. The meds that I take that need to be taken with food, I take a bit later in the morning after I've eaten.I take the second half of my cytomel dose about 12 hours after the morning dose, about one hour before dinner, usually. This is at the recommendation of my endocrinologist, who told me it is better to split the cytomel dose because it has a relatively short half life, and splitting it would keep the levels more steady.
