I've been taking 20mg Ambien every night for about 4 months and it works every time.
Sure, if I don't go to bed I get visual hallucinations and *extreme* memory impairment, but there is an element of euphoria as well.
I used to take it, wait until the fun started, then head to bed. But after a while I realized that I was doing things that I had no recollection of during this time, and a high that you can't remember is pretty pointless.
Overall I find it more euphoric but slightly less effective for sleep than benzos. Benzos are more pure, less euphoric, and *sustain* sleep much better for me. In fact, I would much rather be on 2mg lorazepam (my fav benzo) at night because I wake up much more refreshed and can hop right out of bed.
I am the kind of person prone to restlessness, agitation, insomnia and the likes, so "pure" downers work a lot better for me.
