Klonopin (clonazepam) dosing

Posted by Squiggles on May 14, 2002, at 8:49:33

Hello again,

I would like to ask you if I should raise
my clonazepam dose.

After an unsuccessful attempt to withdraw
from clonazepam, I went back to my original
1.0mg, and than had to add some 0.250 due to
residual withdrawal symptoms.

My doctor is with me all along on this
and basically allows me to take as much as
I need.

I am rather confused about how much I should take
because the withdrawal left me with many new
symptoms, e.g. sense of shifting blood pressure,
sweating at night, peripheral neuropathy in my
hands and wrists, and head sensations.

I am not sure if raising the dose would eliminate
these or if they are due to something else, or
maybe just ongoing irreversible changes. Certainly,
raising the 0.250 made me feel better; interesting
that after withdrawal a higher dose was needed. I
recall reading something about this in Dr. Heather Ashton's
work.

I doubt very much that I will ever try getting
off this drug again, and so I rationalize to
myself that I may as well take a bigger dose.
I have been on this 1.0mg dose for many years,
and 0.50 for at least 7 years before that.

Thanks for reading; anyone experienced with this
drug who has an idea or can relate to these
experiences, please let me know;

Squiggles
